WELCOME TO THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL CURRICULUM SESSION

Pre School Curriculum Overview

Here at The Cambridge School, we aim to provide children in Early Years with educational experiences that will help them develop a positive approach to learning. By creating a learning environment where children feel at home, they will be more willing to explore new concepts and ideas. Self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and respect for others are encouraged. Classroom walls are covered with careful displays of children’s art and craft, as well as language-based information to help them develop their communication and language skills. Displays of educational material related to topics being studied and an ever-changing role-play area help further stimulate their enthusiasm.

Language and literacy cover essential aspects of language development and provides a strong foundation on which to build. Particular emphasis is placed on speaking and listening as well as on pre-reading and pre-writing activities.

In Numeracy, children are introduced to essential aspects of mathematical understanding and are provided with the foundation for numeracy. This is achieved through practical activities and by using and understanding simple mathematical language.

Children in Early Years at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL acquire basic knowledge and understanding of their environment, other people and features of the natural and human-made world. Personal and social development focuses on children learning how to work, play, co-operate with others and function in a group beyond their family.

The physical development programme aims to help children develop physical control, mobility, awareness of space and manipulative skills in indoor and outdoor environments. Children are actively encouraged to establish positive attitudes towards a healthy and active way of life.

The curriculum at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL ensures children are ready for Primary School by providing them with a range of knowledge and skills to build the right foundation for good future progress. The Cambridge School is a place where children have many opportunities to develop and thrive. Learning is not limited to the classroom but can also take place on the sports field, preparing for a performance, through a community service project or in any one of the variety of activities that pupils regularly take part in.

The Cambridge School Teachers strive to create an atmosphere that fosters enthusiasm for learning and promotes the personal development of each child. Pupils quickly learn the value of academic achievement, but they are also encouraged to take a broader view of success. Every member of the school, young or old, is expected to contribute to the welfare of the school community. Leadership and initiative are encouraged and celebrated. Our teachers teach using modern equipment in an audio visual teaching environment. The Cambridge School follows CBSE Curriculum and we teach the text books from Cambridge publication.

Small class sizes and a low student to teacher ratio mean that each child can receive the support and attention required to make excellent progress. Specialist teachers, professional musicians and coaches help ensure a broad education for our pupils.

The aim of the curriculum at The Cambridge School is to offer pupils a strong academic foundation and a diverse learning experience that allows them to excel in those areas where they have particular interest or ability.

We aim for a high standard of attainment, and many pupils will be working at a level that goes beyond the objectives of our stated curriculum..

While the core subjects such as English, Maths and Science form a central part of the curriculum, our Integrated Curriculum for pupils in Years 1-4 offers a broad range of topics including Computing, Geography, Art and Design and History. In Years 5 and 6, we move towards a more clearly defined subject orientated timetable with increasing access to subject specialist teachers in preparation for Secondary School. As a school for all, we place great importance on the learning of a second language English besides the 3rd language Hindi , Sanskrit , and the first language Odiya  and provide opportunities for pupils to acquire a high level of fluency.

We also offer the exposure to learn German and French as an International Language to class 6th onwards

During Art classes, your child will be introduced to basic art skills, and every opportunity will be afforded to them to grow as young artists. The Art curriculum is designed to strengthen a child’s knowledge of art, as well as their artistic ability and skills.

Music at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL

Music is a universal language that can engage and inspire children. Learning a musical instrument or simply appreciating a broader range of musical genres develops a unique mind and spirit, and provides a source of joy and satisfaction that can last a lifetime.

Music has an almost universal interest, most people enjoy listening to it, playing an instrument or singing. It’s an enjoyable subject and a subject that enriches students’ lives and their education.

As a result, Music has a central place in the curriculum here at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL, allowing students to develop an appreciation and love for music while honing their musical skills.

Throughout the year a busy schedule of concerts and musical workshops provide pupils with the opportunities to showcase their work and talent, both in the school and the broader community.

Musicians use memory to perform. The regular use of memorization aids a student in their education and much more. Students with early musical training develop the areas of the brain related to language and reasoning more than those that don’t.

Learning music promotes craftsmanship, and a desire to create good work as opposed to mediocre work. It improves hand-eye coordination, similar to that when playing sports, fine motor skills are greatly developed when playing music regularly.

Although learning to play music can be challenging, it is also an achievable goal. Mastering even the smallest goal in music provides an opportunity to feel proud in their achievement, keeping them interested and engaged in school and contributes to their intellectual development.

The introduction of music in early childhood fosters a positive attitude toward learning developing the whole brain and imagination and can help in solving problems by thinking outside the box and in knowing that there may be more than one right answer.

Sports at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL

Our aim in Physical Education (PE) is to introduce students to a wide variety of sports and activities with the hope that they leave THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL recognizing the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle after developing a love for physical activity. Throughout the year, sports competitions and inter-house tournaments help develop critical skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork.

We believe all children benefit from a balanced and broad Physical Education curriculum in which they are given help to realize their full potential in all aspects of physical activity.

There is no doubt that Physical Education plays a vital role in a child’s development. The curriculum at THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL is designed to enable all children to participate in a wide range of activities in many varied environments thus enabling them to enhance their knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply physical skills.

Furthermore, the children are encouraged to work safely and independently whilst learning to understand and appreciate the long term benefits of regular physical activity on the body. This enables pupils to make informed decisions regarding adopting and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle outside of school.

In the foundation stage, Physical development is largely about improving coordination skills, manipulation, movement, and control. Primary age children learn through aspects of dance, gym, games, outdoor adventure activities, net and wall games, and athletic pursuits.

Additionally, we advocate both the effective use of the PE curriculum and extra-curricular activities through clubs before, during and after school. Enabling students to appreciate their own and others’ achievements, enjoying the experiences a long the way. We believe this makes a significant contribution to our student’s emotional, intellectual and personal development, greatly enhancing their self-esteem.

Regular Activities in School A wide array of activities are offered to students at TBS, and student enthusiasm can lead to the foundation of even more. These activities contribute to the liveliness and energy of the campus :
