First-language-first education

Primary education in  The Cambridge School , a child’s first language or mother tongue is crucial to early learning and considered as most effective startegy for developing strong academic foundations and a base for acquiring proficiency in other languages. In Mother Tongue based Multilingual Education (MLE) programme, the schooling begins in mother tongue and transits to additional languages gradually. The use of mother tongue  as medium of imparting education in early grades enable children to develop a strong education foundation through beginning in the language the learners know best, building on the knowledge and experience they bring to the classroom, and enhance confidence and self-esteem . In The Cambridge School , Students whose Mother Language is either Odiya or Telugu take admission. To solve students problem of understanding, our teacher speaks both Odiya and Telugu apart from Hindi and English.

Odiya as their 1st Language , The Cambridge School provides Odiya as a paper of curriculum as 1st Language from Class 1 onwards. But the Medium of Language though English , the interpretive language taught for clear understanding in Odiya and Hindi and Telugu and Hindi.

The syllabus and pedagogy of THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL for preschool education must be based on a holistic perspective. They should take into account the various domains of development, the characteristics of children and their learning needs in terms of play and activity experiences. Preschool Education provides an environment for children which is rich in stimulation and experiences that allow children to explore, experiment, and freely express themselves. It also gives them a sense of warmth, security, play, music, rhyming, art, and other activities using local materials along with opportunities for speaking listening and expressing themselves, and informal interaction.

As the children who come under the purview of Preschool Education are heterogeneous ranging from age of 2 years to 4+ years, it is important to design and develop activities and experiences which are developmentally appropriate.
